Three days in Athens with teens: the perfect long weekend!

The biggest challenge of travelling with teens is to keep the children happy and at the same time pay an early tribute to the soon-to-be teenagers. This could be a real egg dance for parents, but you will be delighted to see that Athens offers parents and even the pickiest teen the possibility to experience utmost fun during your stay.

An early visit of the Acropolis on your first day is a must-do for families.

Enjoy the amazing view of the city bustling with life and then head towards the impressive new Acropolis Museum, which offers special family programs and workshops. The vibrant old city of Athens (“Plaka”), with its small shops, taverns and street cafés is just around the corner, where you could recharge your batteries before making your teens happy once again, with a visit to the ultra modern Athens Planetarium, showing IMAX films about the solar system.

The next day, the ruins of the Agora and the ancient market place, are waiting to be discovered.

Your teens will have fun exploring the Monastiraki flea market afterwards, where little shops and street vendors sell almost everything their heart desires. You could then go for a ride on the funicular up to the top of Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in Athens with a gorgeous panoramic view of this amazing city.

During summer, the family highlight of the day could be watching a movie in one of the popular open air cinemas, e.g. in Cine Aegli located in the lush Zappeio Gardens, a true oasis in the heart of Athens.

Before you indulge yourself into a lazy day on one of the beaches in the Southern suburbs, visit the Archelon sea turtle rehabilitation centre in Glyfada, one of the first Sea Turtle Rescue Centres in the Mediterranean, which your teens will adore.
